The Way of The Sword

KumDo Kumdo translates to mean "the way of the sword." Although many people find an art based on the sword to be archaic, it is in many ways more relevant than ever. Kumdo is comprehensive training for the body and, even more importantly, the mind and spirit. Sword training is a powerful spiritual and mentally strengthening martial art requiring complete concentration and total dedication. Although sometimes considered daunting, this is where Kumdo's beauty lies. Kumdo is an art that can be mastered by anyone with the heart to see it through!

During typical combat, one can often come back after receiving a blow. In sword training, there is no second chance. If you receive a blow, the battle is over. Under this circumstance the participant is challenged to to be fully present and have a deep understanding of him/herself. Without the proper attitude, one opening for the opponent is all it takes to lose. Although a combination of strength and speed does play a role in the outcome, one cannot master the sword without the total integration of the mind and spirit.
