Master Julia Khan
Master Julia Khan began her study of the martial arts in 1987. Since that time, she
has dedicated herself to the pursuit of the total integration of the mind, body and
spirit. Master Khan has trained under many of the premier instructors in the United
States: including Herb Perez, Mark Williams and Eun S. Gwack. In 1999, her training was catapulted forward by her study under the Father of Hapkido
in America, Grand Master Bong Soo Han. Grand Master Han's rigorous training has enhanced
Master Khan's understanding of and veneration for the power of Ki (internal energy), as
well as imbued the deep philosophical principles of the martial arts.
Since the passing of Grand Master Han, Master Khan continues her study of the practical
art of Hapkido with Master Daniel Cruz, a senior student and close disciple of Grand
Master Han. In 2004, Master Khan had the great fortune to meet and train with Dr. Arthur
Thompson of Kumite Ryu Ju Jitsu. This highly effective and realistic training tied together
Master Khan's previous training and culminated in the synthesized program of Do Shim Mudo.
A lifelong pursuit, the martial arts are both her passion and her profession. As a result, Master Khan spends each day training and studying all aspects of technique. In addition, she makes it a point to remain well versed in current research in the areas of exercise physiology, nutrition, teaching paradigms and childhood development. Consequently, Master Khan brings a progressive approach to traditional martial arts. Steeped in tradition, and backed by scientific knowledge, she guides each student on his/her journey through the martial arts in pursuit of more than physical prowess, the pursuit of a more balanced and positive approach to all aspects of life.
