The Making of Do Shim Mudo

1994

Master Khan began teaching her own classes at I.S. Kim's Martial Arts School in Flushing, NY.

2003

Do Shim Mudo opens as a full service private martial arts training program in Austin, TX.

At this time, Do Shim Mudo becomes one of only a hand full of Hapkido schools personally authorized by the legendary Grand Master Bong Soo Han (senior student of founder Yong Sul Choi). Master Khan also becomes the first woman to operate a Han Hapkido academy.

Master Khan is certified as a personal trainer under the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and begins incorporating and refining the OPT model for martial arts and performance enhancement.

2004

Master Khan meets and trains with Dr. Arthur Thompson. The intensity and enhanced reality drills of Kumite Ryu Ju Jitsu are incorporated into the Do Shim syllabus.

2007

Sensei Virginia Yu joins the Do Shim staff bringing with her expertise in defensive tactics, defense against firearms and Shotokai Karate. Do Shim commits itself to build on centuries worth of martial arts tradition by enhancing the self-defense skills and physical training to stay relevant in the modern world.

2009

Do Shim Mudo comes full circle offering our unique programs and skilled trainers to the people of the NYC metro area.

Drawing on over 20 years of martial arts experience and over 10 years in the health and fitness industry, Master Khan has developed and trained the Do Shim staff in a progressive hybrid approach to training for new, budding and experienced martial artists, as well as for those individuals looking to get fit while developing a stronger mind and a more peaceful spirit.
